Esther Hergert Obituary


Esther Hergert, 94, of the town of Tyre passed away on Valentine's Day/ Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital, after a short illness. She was born in WaKeeney, Kansas on July 15th, 1929, the only child of John George and Lydia Fabricius. She married Karl W. Hergert on July 11th, 1948 and became widowed in 1969. Esther retired from IEC Electronics Corporation in Newark, in 2000. She was a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran church in Waterloo. She went on an international group mission trip to visit orphanages to hand out gifts, care packages, and bibles. She liked to work in her flower garden. She loved to visit her many aunts, uncles and cousins in Kansas in years past. She enjoyed being the matriarch of her large family. Esther was predeceased by grandbaby Christian Hergert, and by sons Dale K. Hergert and Darrell J. Hergert, and by son-in-law Mark Schneider. She is survived by a son John G. Hergert (Joyce Toussaint) of Hendersonville, NC; daughter and caregiver Karen Quinn (Jon) of Auburn, NY, and daughter June Schneider of Ridgefield, WA. Esther leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Also survived by one nephew, Bill Holmes of Waterloo, widowed daughters-in-law, and several Kansas cousins. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Monday February 26th at Calvary Lutheran Church located on Rte 414 in Waterloo. Pastor William Dorow will officiate. Private calling hours on Sunday 25th for family only, arrangements by Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date to be determined, in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. Contributions in memory of Esther may be made to the memorial fund of Calvary Lutheran Church.
