Obituary - Abby Gazley

Abby Gazley

SENECA FALLS, NY: Elizabeth “Abby” Gazley (Koch), age 87, a lifetime resident of Seneca Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2025, after a short illness.

A friend wrote that Abby was “a beautiful, spirited, talented, creative lady who loved draft beer, raw hamburgers, and french fries”, and that was just a hint of what a fun-loving, amazing woman she was. She had a constant creative energy that she shared with anyone who knew her. She loved playing, watching golf, listening to jazz, painting, and relaxing in a hammock on Cayuga Lake. Abby was always up for an adventure to local breweries, wineries, and eating spots. She had a subtle competitive spirit and took pleasure in her victories in games such as bridge, dominos, and the family favorite... Telefungi!

Abby was born and raised in Seneca Falls and attended Mynderse Academy. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Syracuse University and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. After college, she was an art teacher in Suffern, NY. On a ski trip, she met the love of her life, the late Lawrence (Larry) J Gazley. Prior to settling back to Seneca Falls, she and Larry began their journey in Birmingham, Michigan and then onto Waterford, Connecticut where they raised their 3 children, Abby was an active and well-respected artist in the local arts community. Upon moving back to Seneca Falls, she opened and ran the 67 Fall Street Art & Frame shop. She and Larry renovated her family’s cottage (“the Frog Lot”) on Cayuga Lake in Varick, and spent hours creating and managing a sculpture garden and of course...a frog pond. She sold the shop in 2003 and dedicated her time to helping local charities and being an active member of the Seneca County Arts Council as well as countless years as a member of the Seneca Falls Country Club.

Abby is survived by 3 of her children, Barbara Gazley and her husband Raun Kupiec of Zurich, Switzerland, twins Pamela Gazley and her husband Stephen DeLeo of Nashua, NH, and John Gazley and his wife Christine Hathaway of Cambridge, MA. She is the beloved “Grabby” to Eli Kupiec, and loving sister to Barbara Foggo (Koch) and her husband Thomas Foggo of Hilton Head, SC. She is loved by six nephews and their families, plus many cousins and close friends.

She was the daughter of the late Henry W. and Barbara Follette Koch of Seneca Falls, NY and eldest sister to the late Mary Koch Fine.

A celebration of life will be held this summer. If you wish to send monetary condolences, please consider donating to the Seneca County Arts Council.

Arrangements are in the care of Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home, 32 State St., Seneca Falls.
